First we are going to learn how to check if your watch time is counting these are the things we are going look into in this post

  • how to check if your watch time is counting
  • how to troubleshoot common watch time problems and
  • how to contact YouTube support if you are still having problems

What causes watch time not to increase

First let's start with what causes watch time not to increase, there are two main factors that can affect your watch time not to increase, one of the factors is that your video is not public, if your video is not public the watch times you get will not count to the eligible public watch time which is one of the criteria you need to hit for you to get into the YouTube partnership Program YPP (Monetization)

so if your video is not public it will not count to the public watch time and another thing is if your video is too short it will still not count into the public watch hour, you can be seeing the watch time in the analysis tab but it will not be counting to the Eligible Public Watch Hour so these are the factors that cause watch time not to be increasing and another thing is invalid traffic, yes invalid traffic can as well cause your watch time not to be increasing because if you're having invalid traffic on your Channel you will see the watch time in the analysis tab then maybe the next few days it will still clear.

How to prevent watch time not Increasing

Now let's talk on how to prevent watch time not increasing, how to prevent watch time from not Counting first you have to make sure your video is public like I said earlier that's one of the reasons that your watch time will not be eligible make sure that your video is not unlisted or private make sure it's a public video, while publishing it even if you've published it already you can still go to the editor and change it to public, that's one thing

then another thing to consider is your video should be long video not in the short tab it shouldn't be a short video, short videos are not eligible for meeting the public watch hours so if your video is less than 10 seconds or short or below 3 minutes you know recently YouTube has updated its policy starting from the 15th of October 2024 videos Less Than 3 minutes which are in vertical form or Square Ratio resolution will be in the short categories so videos which you post after 15th of October if it's a vertical or Square resolution it will be in the short tab so the watch time you get in that video will not be eligible it will not count in the public watch time, so this is one thing you should consider but mind you the videos which you uploaded earlier before 15th of October it will not be short it will still remain as a long term video so those are eligible but on or after 15th of October 2024 videos which you upload in the vertical ratio or Square ratio which is 3 minutes or less than 3 minutes will be in the short tab so it will not be eligible but you'll be seeing watch times in your analysis board but it will not count to your public watch time so these are the factors that cause your watch time not to increase

now another thing for you to bear in mind is that YouTube usually take few days to process your watch time before it will get to the public watch time so you can be seeing those watch time in the Analysis tab yet it will not count in the public watch time gauge instantly
Sometimes it takes 6 days or more but it will always show you the last time it was updated so for new channels

this is one thing you should do if you want to know if your watch time is increasing or is not increasing when you go to your YouTube Studio you can check the last time your watch time was updated, your watch time and subscribers and everything was updated you can check the date and note down the figure which you had on that day which it was last updated because if your channel is not getting much watch time within a week so when you come back next time you might forget the figure it was the last time you checked so just note down the date and the amount the number of public watch time you have already so at the next time you come to check if it has been updated you will know if it's increasing or it's not increasing because I believe this is one of the reasons some new YouTubers say that they watch time is not increasing because before you come back to Check the update you forgotten the figure you had earlier.

YouTube carefully validate each Channel engagement metric before they are displayed in public watch hour gauge,  this process may take several days to complete and may vary from what you see elsewhere such as YouTube analysis so it takes several days for this process to be completed and validate your Channel's watch time so all you have to do is note the last time it was updated then write down the figure you got by that date so that when next you come you will be able to know if it is increasing or not,

now having said that another thing to discuss here now is how to get help with watch time not counting first if after checking and you are very sure that your watch time is not increasing you can visit the YouTube help center after that you can still contact the YouTube support from the YouTube tab from your studio tab you can contact the YouTube support and tell them the issue you're facing on your channel they will help you check and rectify the issue so I believe this post  helps you for troubleshooting your watch time problems please if you find this post helpful Subscribe to my YouTube channel, please share thank you so much
